Correlation between progression of left ventricular mass and atherosclerosis of carotid and coronary arteries in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus under optimal medical treatment: a long-term CMR study
نویسندگان
چکیده
Background Increased left ventricular (LV) mass is a strong predictor of cardiovascular events and mortality and is common among patients with type 2 diabetes. Carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) is commonly used to monitor progression of coexisting atherosclerosis. However, the relationship between the progression of LV mass and vascular changes in the carotid and coronary arteries remains poorly understood. The purpose of this study was to investigate that relationship in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Still waters run deep: progression of left ventricular mass and stagnant atherosclerosis of carotid artery in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and coronary heart disease - insights from a long-term CMR study
Background Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and coronary artery disease (CAD) are at high cardiovascular risk. Both carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) and left ventricular (LV) mass are predictors for cardiovascular events and are commonly increased in these patients. However, the mechanism of association is poorly understood. This study sought to determine that relationship and...
متن کاملThe Correlation between Left and Right Ventricular Ejection Fractions in Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease, Documented by Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Introduction: The correlation between right and left ventricular ejection fractions (RVEF and LVEF, respectively) has been studied in only a small number of patients with a marked decrease in RVEF and LVEF. The aim of the present study was to compare LVEF and RVEF in patients with ischemic heart disease. RVEF and LVEF were measured by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging. Materials a...

Introduction: Nowadays caotid Dopplers sonography is gold standard for carotid artery screening in coronary aetery bypass grafting (CABG) candidates. This study was carried out in an angioplasty center in southern seaport in Iran to assesss theprevalence of artery stenosis and correlation of the atherosclerosis risk factor with the rate of artery stensis, and nence to define the high risk group...

Background: A correlation between coronary artery disease (CAD) and atherosclerosis of peripheral arteries and the determination of noninvasive indexes for its existence and extent have been sought by many researchers. Some studies report that the intima-media thickness (IMT) of peripheral arteries could play this role. This study evaluated the correlation between the IMTs of common carotid and...
متن کاملRisk Factors for the Progression of Intima-Media Thickness of Carotid Arteries: A 2-Year Follow-Up Study in Patients with Newly Diagnosed Type 2 Diabetes
BACKGROUND Intima-media thickness (IMT) of the carotid arteries is known to have a positive correlation with the risk of cardiovascular disease. This study was designed to identify risk factors affecting the progression of carotid IMT in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS Patients with newly diagnosed T2DM with carotid IMT measurements were enrolled, and their clinical dat...
